Rose Room

We are slowly getting the rose room into shape. We bought a bed at the antique store a few months ago, but need to have a frame made to convert it to a queen size. (We got this idea from our friends who own a B&B.) We also need a couple of bedside tables. Scout likes the room already.

Last Day of the Fall Meet

We went to the last day of Keeneland's fall meet yesterday. Since the Breeder's Cup was also going on at Santa Anita (think Seabiscuit) in California, we also got to bet on those races. We were lucky to have been invited by our former "landlords" to go to one of the corporate boxes that they were asked to use yesterday. As you can see, the view was great. We were high enough to see the whole track.

Natalie and George - our former landlords. (This was before most people arrived, so the boxes were still pretty empty.)

And this is just a sweet picture that has nothing to do with Keeneland.

Staycation Day 2 - Bourbon

We visited the Four Roses bourbon distillery in Lawrenceburg, KY. Unfortunately for us, the distilling process was shut down due to the lack of water caused by the drought conditions we're experiencing in central Kentucky. We were able to tour most of the distillery and taste samples of each of their bourbons.

Staycation Day 1 - Horses

We are currently on a short staycation. We toured a horse farm and went to Keeneland. Unfortunately we didn't win any money at the races.

Adena Springs Farm - Paris, KY. The grey horse is 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo. The other horse is 2004 Eclipse Award Horse of the Year Ghostzapper.

Batman

That dark lump on the wall is a bat. Apparently it lived behind the shutter which was removed today so we could work on window repairs. Wife stuck her head out the window and took pictures of the tiny beast. It's quite furry, but not pet-able.

Early October II

This is the Daniel Boone snowman we bid on and won at the festival last weekend. He'll get to stand in the front yard at Christmas with our other snowman from last year.

Jake lounges.

There is a craft festival next to the old jail this weekend.

Early October

The three pups are getting along famously.

Our new yard sign. If only we had a lifesize cutout of Caribou Barbie, gosh darn.
The Festival of the Horse is going on downtown this weekend. We walked down for funnel cake and the parade. If you look closely, you can see Senator Mitch McConnell and his wife, Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, on the right side of the photo below. Will refrain from comment on politics for once.
Retired jockey Chris McCarron - Parade Grand Marshall.
Snowman auction. We've bid on a couple of them, including the Elvis snowman in the second picture.

September

September has been a busy month, so we haven't had too much time to update the blog. Wife has been busy with a brief when not trying to recover from an allergic outbreak to an antibiotic and the resulting crop of hives. Husband has been busy removing old paint, applying new paint, and doing yard work. Of course, no updates meant that everyone got to see the Obama banner when checking for new posts.

This is the kitchen window on the side of the house. It has now been stripped of alligatored paint and primed. The windows were also painted and have been put back in. Lots more windows to go.

Finn on the run.
Remnants of Hurricane Ike - lots of wind. Poor mulberry tree. Fortunately, it didn't damage anything.
Scout demonstrating the proper way to spend a weekend.
We added a new face (yes, a furry one) to the family this weekend. Say hi to Jake! He is a playmate for Finn. They have worn each other out.
