Kentucky Horse Park

We went to the Kentucky Horse Park with David and Eunhee on Friday after Thanksgiving rather than shop.

John and David

Eunhee with 1987 Kentucky Derby and 1988 Breeders' Cup Classic (Nora and her parents saw this race on a cold rainy afternoon at Churchill Downs) winner Alysheba.

Nap Time

The whole brood is sleepy this week because we have been so busy. We are also in recovery from the 24/7 presidential election coverage and, of course, Tuesday night. (Whoopee for Obama!) Husband will be worn out after insulating the crawl space this afternoon, so maybe we'll take a picture of his inevitable snooze.

The dogs really like the couch and it really doesn't seem to matter to them when it is occupied.

October-November

It has been a wild week. While Wife was taking a shower on Thursday morning, the dogs learned how to open the back gate. Wife soon noticed that the yard was empty and went into panic mode. Panic mode involved enlisting our next-door neighbor to drive around the neighborhood behind the house while Wife, who was wearing red plaid pajama pants and light blue Crocs among other things, ran all over with leashes in one hand and a bag of treats in the other. Luckily, the dogs found some dogs at a nearby house and was able to round them up.

Thursday's taste of freedom launched a campaign by the dogs to escape again ala The Great Escape. We have plugged all the holes for the moment.
Sleepy dog.

A couple of our few, and by few we mean 12-15, trick or treaters.

The beautiful leaves in our yard and the neighboring yard.

The dog park!

Isn't he cute?

New rug. We got a bargain because there is a small stain. It is cat approved.

Rose Room

We are slowly getting the rose room into shape. We bought a bed at the antique store a few months ago, but need to have a frame made to convert it to a queen size. (We got this idea from our friends who own a B&B.) We also need a couple of bedside tables. Scout likes the room already.

Last Day of the Fall Meet

We went to the last day of Keeneland's fall meet yesterday. Since the Breeder's Cup was also going on at Santa Anita (think Seabiscuit) in California, we also got to bet on those races. We were lucky to have been invited by our former "landlords" to go to one of the corporate boxes that they were asked to use yesterday. As you can see, the view was great. We were high enough to see the whole track.

Natalie and George - our former landlords. (This was before most people arrived, so the boxes were still pretty empty.)

And this is just a sweet picture that has nothing to do with Keeneland.

Staycation Day 2 - Bourbon

We visited the Four Roses bourbon distillery in Lawrenceburg, KY. Unfortunately for us, the distilling process was shut down due to the lack of water caused by the drought conditions we're experiencing in central Kentucky. We were able to tour most of the distillery and taste samples of each of their bourbons.

Staycation Day 1 - Horses

We are currently on a short staycation. We toured a horse farm and went to Keeneland. Unfortunately we didn't win any money at the races.

Adena Springs Farm - Paris, KY. The grey horse is 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo. The other horse is 2004 Eclipse Award Horse of the Year Ghostzapper.

Keeneland - Lexington, KY
