Kentucky Equine Humane Center

We recently started volunteering at the Kentucky Equine Humane Center. This is a wonderful organization that rescues horses and finds them new homes. We encourage everyone to consider sending a donation because they desperately need support right now.

The KEHC takes in all kinds of horses from thoroughbreds retired at the track to owners who have decided not to keep their horses. We help move the horses to and from the fields to the barn for feeding and grooming and do general clean-up around the barn. When it warms up some we will help with training and will get to ride on occasion. It's great to help this group and these sweet, beautiful animals....and Wife finally gets to be around horses again after too many years of not.

Below are some pictures of Smokey. He is a thoroughbred gelding who was recently retired at a racetrack in Kentucky. In other words, his owners decided they didn't want him anymore and gave him up to the KEHC. (Such people are absolutely disgusting and they deserve to be sent to the glue factory!!!) Anyway, Wife is head over heels in love with Smokey and would adopt him in a heartbeat if she could. Isn't he beautiful? Wife has another date with Smokey next Sunday ;-)

We found his favorite spot to be scratched!

Snow Day

We got over four inches of snow last night. The dogs love playing in it.

Christmas Update

Unlike their cousins of Three Dog Site fame, the pups were cooperative in posing for a photo with the Christmas tree.

Jake and Finn are professional sleepers. Just about anything or anyone can make a good cushion.

Amelia really, really likes water. She especially likes fresh tapwater.

Ward Hall - Christmas Open House

We went to the Christmas Open House at Ward Hall on Sunday afternoon. We toured the house and had cookies and punch. The main living areas of the house are in average shape, but the house as a whole needs extensive work. A local group is trying to raise funds for the restoration. Unfortunately, much of the land around Ward Hall has been purchased by developers for ugly developments full of cheap, ugly, cookiecutter houses. But, the developments have thankfully come to a standstill with the current economic situation.

This was a gothic style barn that has fallen in. There are a few pictures of it in Ward Hall. It was once beautiful.

Playtime and Nap Time

The pups enjoyed playing in the tiny wee bit of snow we got on Saturday.

Scout couldn't care less about playtime. In fact, she was grumpy that she was woken up for this picture.

Jake requires naps after playtime. Wife requires naps regardless.

Xmas Tree 08

After realizing that pre-cut Christmas trees cost way too much I went and cut down an 8'6" Scotch Pine from a local tree farm. I wanted one over 9' tall but couldn't find one that looked good.

Savannah, Finn, and Jake wanted to help decorate the tree but ended up just watching as we did all of the work.
