Just Jake

Jake the dog.

Grass??

Our new straw yard. Hopefully the grass will grow and replace our mud pit of a backyard.

Timberrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

The largest tree in our backyard started to fall and then just hung there at a 45 degree angle for around 24 hours. The weight of the ice was finally too much and the tree fell. Luckily it didn't hit anything other than our chain link fence.

Fun Pet Pics

Here are some fun photos of the animals....

The president of the animals has to nap quite often.

This dispute over the rubber stick toy created some high-flying dogs and a big thump of a landing.

I'm hungry.

The old girl has still got some puppy in her.

Another professional level napper...well, both are actually.

The rubber stick is one of the best dog toy purchases ever.
Another sleepy feline.

Couch potatoes.

New Years

John's parents came to to spend New Years with us.

Savannah enjoying a belly rub.

We went to the Hofbrauhaus in Newport, KY on Friday.

We had wurst and bier. It didn't occur to Wife to take a picture of the meal until it was half eaten.

Kentucky Equine Humane Center

We recently started volunteering at the Kentucky Equine Humane Center. This is a wonderful organization that rescues horses and finds them new homes. We encourage everyone to consider sending a donation because they desperately need support right now.

The KEHC takes in all kinds of horses from thoroughbreds retired at the track to owners who have decided not to keep their horses. We help move the horses to and from the fields to the barn for feeding and grooming and do general clean-up around the barn. When it warms up some we will help with training and will get to ride on occasion. It's great to help this group and these sweet, beautiful animals....and Wife finally gets to be around horses again after too many years of not.

Below are some pictures of Smokey. He is a thoroughbred gelding who was recently retired at a racetrack in Kentucky. In other words, his owners decided they didn't want him anymore and gave him up to the KEHC. (Such people are absolutely disgusting and they deserve to be sent to the glue factory!!!) Anyway, Wife is head over heels in love with Smokey and would adopt him in a heartbeat if she could. Isn't he beautiful? Wife has another date with Smokey next Sunday ;-)

We found his favorite spot to be scratched!

Snow Day

We got over four inches of snow last night. The dogs love playing in it.
